> How do I tell if my click data is real or just bot clicks?

Klaviyo automatically detects and flags bot clicks for you, making it easy to distinguish between real human clicks and automated bot activity. Here's how to identify and work with this data:

How Klaviyo identifies bot clicks

Klaviyo uses multiple factors to automatically determine whether a click was performed by a bot or a human. This information is stored as event data you can access and filter on.

Where to find bot click data

In email events:

  • Look for the "Bot Click" property in any Clicked Email event
  • Value will be true (bot click) or false (human click)
  • Data available from January 1, 2022 onward

In SMS events:

  • Check the "Bot Click" property in Clicked SMS events
  • Same true/false values as email

How to analyze your bot click volume

Using Metrics reports:

  1. Navigate to Analytics > Metrics
  2. Select either "Clicked Email" or "Clicked SMS"
  3. Set your desired timeline
  4. Use the "By Bot Click" filter to see the breakdown of bot vs. human clicks

Using custom reports:

  1. Go to Analytics > Custom Reports
  2. Create a Single Metric report (Campaign and Flow Performance reports automatically exclude bot clicks if the feature is enabled)
  3. Add a filter for "Bot Click = False" to see only human clicks

Segmenting with bot click data

To create segments with only real human clicks:

  • When using "Clicked Email" or "Clicked SMS" conditions
  • Add the filter: "Bot Click equals False"
  • This ensures only profiles with genuine human engagement are included

Important note: A single profile can have both human and bot clicks mixed together. Klaviyo tracks each click individually, so you can see the complete picture of engagement.
