Klaviyo offers 6 different types of flow triggers to automate your email and SMS campaigns. Here's what you can use:
Flow Trigger Types
1. Added to List
- Triggers when someone joins a specific list
- Perfect for welcome series when people sign up via forms or subscribe pages
- Example: Send a welcome email immediately, then 2-3 follow-up emails spaced days apart
2. Added to Segment
- Triggers when someone meets segment conditions
- Useful when you want multiple actions to trigger the same flow
- Segments grow/shrink dynamically as people meet or leave conditions
3. Metric (Event-Based)
- Triggers when someone takes a tracked action
- Works with any integration event or API-created events
- Examples: Started Checkout, Placed Order, filled out a form
- Note: Performance metrics like Opened Email and Clicked Email cannot be used as flow triggers
4. Date Property
- Triggers on specific dates or before certain dates
- Can recur monthly or yearly
- Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, or time-sensitive campaigns
- Works with date properties on profiles or custom objects
5. Price Drop
- Triggers when viewed or abandoned cart items drop in price
- Can be set by dollar amount ($10) or percentage (20%)
- Great for re-engaging potential customers
6. Low Inventory
- Triggers when viewed or abandoned items are running low in stock
- Can specify thresholds by product variant or total product stock
